Unexplained performance decrease

Hi,

I am developing a Windows Forms app in C# using VS2012 and SQL Server 2008.  At some point in the dev process, I noticed performance slowing dramatically.  After a lot of analysis, I found perfomance changed between versions 040 and 042.  These two versions are nearly identical, connect to the exact same instance of the the database using identical connection strings, integrated security, and the identical stored procedures.  I have diffed the 2 versions and have commented out all significant differences.  The remaining differences seem irrelevant.  Yet the performance differs by an order of magnitude.

By careful analysis of the application log and SQL Server Profiler, it seems like the database is 10 times slower responding to version 042 than 040, yet I can not find any reason.

I know this is very vague, and the program is way too huge to post.  Even as I write this post, I say to myself - "you idiot - just diff the two apps and find the differences." Which I have done over and over to no avail.

Are there any settings outside of the app itself which might affect the connection to the database?

Thanks so much.
